Director RAC

Smt KV Prabha, Sc H took over as Director RAC on 1st Mar 2023. She is a post graduate in Computer Science and MPhil in Computer Science with Data Mining as specialization. She has undergone training in Advanced Leadership courses in IIM(A) and ASCI.

She joined DRDO in the year 1990 at DRDL Hyderabad and has extensively contributed in implementation/institutionalization of KM, carrying the vision of Late Dr Abdul Kalam to bring in a culture of knowledge creation, sharing and leveraging to take advantage of being early bird in all the ongoing projects/programmes. She has contributed to several non-IT (CEPs, talks, Colloquiums, Exit interviews, Surveys, K Magazine, K awards, compilation of each technology directorate’s – areas of work, gap analysis, facility inventory, expertise, skill inventory, lessons learned, case studies) and IT (Idea recognition system, Brain storming, Technology discussion forum, Cyber open forum, Solution board, Document Management System, e-Learning, Hall of fame, Directorates web sites, K Metrics) based KM initiatives at DRDL. Concepts implemented were presented in conferences and shared with other DRDO labs for implementation.
Another major achievement of her that made a significant impact on the functioning of the Lab was process re-engineering and implementation of workflow based approval and alert systems for most of the processes including design, development, quality, procurement, integration, testing, budget, finance, admin & allied functions.
She also extended the initiative to cluster level for all the Labs for online clearance of SoCs by Lab stake holders, IFA & DG. Online monitoring of critical issues of all Projects by Directors & DG was also a first of its kind initiative at cluster level.
She has experience in implementation of ISO, CMMI and Information Security Management System. She has worked in the areas of Genetic Algorithm and Data mining. She was also instrumental in finalizing/compiling standard document templates for weapon system life cycle processes including Master Quality Assurance Plan and Quality Management Plan with the support of specialist scientists.

She was also the Group Director for C4I, IT, Range and Instrumentation Directorates and TA&DPA to Director before joining RAC in Sept 2020. To optimize the resources of range & instrumentation, during this period, Programme specific checkout facility was initiated by her.
At RAC she has established a smart rack based data centre and structured cabling for LANs. She has experience in the activities of Recruitments & Assessments, Peer committee reviews, Conduct of Examination & Evaluation processes. She has initiated projects for AI based recruitment application screening and air gap based secure assessment system for the board rooms. She has received National Science day award in the year 2015 at DRDL.

Sh. Susheel Kumar Verma, who took over as Director Recruitment and Assessment Centre (RAC) on 01 August 2017, is a post graduate in Electronics & Communication Engineering from University of Roorkee. He headed the Cyber Security Directorate at DRDO Headquarters since its inception in 2012 before relinquishing its charge to take up the new assignment. The responsibility of Chief Information Security Officer of the organization was also entrusted to him since September 2014.

He has earlier worked at Defence Electronics Applications Laboratory in various capacities and was involved in substantial automation in the laboratory including setting up related Infrastructure. Under his stewardship as Secretary, Zonal Recruitment Centre at Dehra Dun became the first entity of DRDO to launch an Interactive Transaction System on the Internet.

He moved to DRDO HQ as part of Directorate of MIST where his efforts were devoted to successful implementation of Enterprise Video Conference Facility over DRDO Intranet and setting up the Registration Authority for NIC-CA for the issue of Digital Certificate.

The RAC is a recruitment and assessment hub of DRDO. It has a great responsibility for recommending the candidates for the appointment of scientists in DRDO and promoting on-the job scientists to next higher grades.

DRDO is a big family of more than 7000 scientists, 12000 technical staff and nearly 6000 administrative manpower. It is a very proud assignment for us at RAC to recruit bright young scientists & engineers and also assess them for their career progression in all DRDO labs. We are committed to observe our motto the ACT, i.e. to work with Accuracy, Confidentiality & Timeliness.

The mission mode programmes of recruitments viz. Scientist Entry Test, Registration of Students with Scholastic Aptitude, Limited Departmental Competitive Examination, Adhoc appointments for NRIs, Campus Selection, Deputation & Absorptions in DRDO and Assessments are executed in a time bound manner with great care. I am very happy to express that RAC have always been successful in meeting its set targets on or before time.

With the advent of new technologies and IT facilities, we are making our sincere efforts for continuous improvements in timely selection of talented scientific manpower for DRDO's prestigious projects and programmes. In this direction, we have established state-of the art-technology infrastructure in RAC for adopting better and effective recruitment and assessment processes. Recently the Video Conferencing facility in RAC has been started for making remote interactions/ interviews & discussions particularly with NRIs. Hence, keeping in view the busy schedule of on the job scientists residing abroad and also of domain experts, Directors and / or scientists not able to join the assessment interview venue, the facility has been established to interact with them through audio & video conferencing.

RAC is also aiming to provide quality services in all aspects of our charter of duties with the edge of ISO 9001:2008 Standard and hence to achieve higher customer satisfaction level.

A number of novel initiatives have been taken for making RAC, a centre of excellence. Finally, I assure you the services with great quality and pleasure.

  • Shortlisting applications using VPN / DRONA resulting in reduced efforts, cost and time
  • Successful implementation and conduct of Campus Selection
  • Augmenting the online interactions with candidates/ experts through Video conferencing
  • Leader Project ATSPM: He was instrumental in S&T activities under Project Development of Advanced Techniques for Scientific Performance Measurement (ATSPM) since its inception phase

  • Organized a national seminar on Experience Sharing for Innovations in Scientific Recruitments and Assessments, first time in the country to create a common platform for interaction among the national recruiting agencies in Govt., Public and Private Sector for which, his efforts were appreciated by Prof. SR Hashim, Chairman UPSC
  • Edited RAC report 2004 and RAC Compendium 2005‐2007
  • Worked on TEAM DRDS: An audit on HR issues and support mechanism based on opinion survey of scientists. He has also been involved in working out and implementation of Multi Attribute Assessment Centric Approach for interviewing the scientists in DRDO
  • Organized a mini workshop on Interviewing & Interviewers: Issues & Challenges (Apr 2007)
  • Organized an International Conference on Emerging frameworks & Issues for S&T Recruitments (Sep 2008) and provided common platform for interaction of recruitment & assessment practioners from Govt./Public/Private Sectors in India & abroad
