1. What are the primary responsibilities of RAC?

RAC has been entrusted with the prime responsibilities in the recruitment and assessment of scientists at various levels under DRDS cadre. It executes several mission mode programmes under the recruitment category. The centre has high quality infrastructure for conducting multiple Selection Board Meetings, CCTV based monitoring system, video conferencing system and a variety of audio-visual aids. The centre is served by a dedicated team of scientific, technical and admin staff who are well qualified and specially trained in recruitment procedures.The primary responsibilities of RAC are :

• Recruitment of Scientists (Gazetted Group 'A') in DRDO
• Assessments of Scientists of DRDO for promotion to the next higher grades
• Selection of candidates for higher study courses (M.E/ M.Tech/ M.Sc Engg) under Research & Training Scheme of DRDO and Post Graduate Training schemes of Army, Navy and Air Force.

In addition to the Pay and Grade Pay, DRDS scientists are entitled to get House Rent Allowance upto 30% of Pay (Pay+grade pay) in case of non-availability of Government accommodation and other allowances viz, DA, Transport etc as admissible to Central Government employees.

Performance Related Incentive Scheme (PRIS)

As per recommendations of the 6th CPC DRDO has implemented the PRIS by way of granting variable increments to meritorious scientists on their promotion to next higher grade based on their performance in the lower grade.

Perquisites like Leave Travel Concession, Medical facilities, Advances for PCs/Conveyance/House Building are also admissible as per government rules. In addition, DRDS Scientists are also eligible for grant of amount equivalent to two increments in the grades of Scientist 'C' to 'F' and Special Pay of Rs. 4000/- to Scientist 'G'  per month; Professional update allowance of Rs 10,000/- (for Scientist 'B' , 'C' and 'D'),  Rs 20,000/- (for Scientist 'E' and Scientist 'F') Rs 30,000/- (for Scientist G onwards) per annum and reimbursement of expenditures on newspapers/periodicals also admissible in accordance with provisions of relevant Rules.

 

6. What are the salient features and promotion policy of DRDS?

DRDO employs highly qualified and competent scientists and technologists in Group 'A' (Class I Gazetted) services known as Defence Research & Development Service (DRDS). A Flexible Complementing Scheme (FCS) is being followed by DRDO. It means that with each promotion, based purely on merit basis, the posts in the grades of Scientist 'B' to 'H' are upgraded automatically to the next higher grades.

The minimum residency period is 3 years for Scientist 'B', 4 years for Scientists 'C', 'D' & 'E', 5 years for Scientist 'F' and 3 years for Scientist 'G'. Relaxation of one year in the minimum residency period, which is limited to two times in entire career, is given to a Scientist 'C'/'D'/'E'/'F' on earning consistently 90% and above marks in three successive CPARs in the same grade. An Internal Screening Committee reviews the CPARs of a scientist on completion of the minimum residency period and decides about his/her eligibility based on the marks obtained in the CPARs. The eligible scientists in the grades of 'B', 'C', 'D' & 'E' have to appear before a duly constituted selection committee which assesses the candidates for promotion to next higher grade. The eligible scientists in the grades of 'F', 'G' & 'H' are required to submit their resume indicating their contribution during the period of review. Based on contribution of scientists, a Peer committee assesses the scientists ( 'F', 'G' & 'H' ) for promotion to next higher grade.

DRDO not only offers employment but also lays emphasis on Human Resource Development. DRDO trains its personnel at its training institutions in Pune and Mussourie and also at prestigious academic institutions viz, IITs, IISc Bangalore etc. for acquiring higher educational qualifications. Opportunities also arise for foreign deputations for training or presentation of research papers and other specific assignments.

16. How can I join DRDO?

One can join DRDO at entry level as Scientist ‘B’ under any of the following schemes:

17. I have some experience in Research & Development in the areas of interest to DRDO. Can I join DRDO at a higher post?

Apart from inducting Scientists 'B' (Entry Level), DRDO has following schemes for inducting Scientists 'C' and above (upto Scientist 'G') based on number of years of experience:

• Lateral Recruitment for Scientist 'C' and above as per requirement of the Labs.(Through Advertisement)
• Talent Search Scheme ( NRIs) for Scientist 'C' and above subject to suitability in DRDO Labs.

18. I am NRI. I want to apply for suitable position in DRDO. Where should I send my application?

You are advised to visit DRDO Website http://www.drdo.gov.in. and surf the information available on different Labs. You may send your application in the prescribed format to the Director of the Lab involved in field of research suitable to your experience and interest or directly to Director RAC. In case you find multiple Labs involved with matching areas of work, the application may be sent to Director, RAC for further processing.

 

19. I am NRI. What is the upper age limit to join DRDO?

20. I am NRI. Do I have to come to RAC for interview?

Not necessary, you may be invited to participate in Tele/Video interviewing, if basic qualification and experience requirements are satisfied.

 

21. Is it possible to acquire higher education after joining the Organisation?

Yes, you may be allowed to undergo M.E/M.Tech/Ph.D through external registration with Academic Institutions. Alternatively, you may be sponsored by DRDO for higher studies viz. M.E/M.Tech in reputed institutions viz. IITs, IISc etc after completing three years residency in DRDO.

 

22. Is there any scope in DRDO for Graduates/Postgraduates in Arts?

The minimum qualification to enter DRDO is First Class Master�s degree in Science or First Class Graduate degree in Engg. However, candidates holding M.A Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Operational Research and Psychology can also apply for Scientist 'B' position.

 

23. I am MBA, in what position can I join DRDO?

DRDO recruits only Scientists and Technologists having First Class Postgraduate degree in Science or First Class Graduate Degree in Engg. However, MBA may be desirable in few cases.

 

24. I have Doctorate degree in Science subject. How and at what level can I join DRDO?

Advertisement appears every year in Jan/Feb. You may also visit RAC website i.e. http://rac.gov.in for details.

 

25. I wish to apply under ROSSA scheme. Do I need working experience?

Only research experience on the basis of which Ph D degree is awarded / being awarded is adequate for ROSSA.

 

26. Can I send the application online?

Yes, application may be submitted on-line, but in addition a hard copy along with postal order is also required to be sent.

 

27. Can I apply for more than one post in one advertisement?

29. Is there any training/orientation programme after induction as Scientist 'B'?

     Yes.

• Orientation program for Scientists 'B' inducted through SET (Scientist Entry Test) and Campus Interview is conducted at DIAT (Defence Institute of Advanced Training) Pune for a period of 16-20 weeks under POINTS (Post Induction Training School) Program.
  
• Orientation program for Scientists 'B' inducted through Direct Recruitment (NON-SET) is presently conducted at ITM (Institute of Technology Management) Mussoorie for a period of 4 weeks.

 

30. I am a Post graduate degree holder in Life Science/Psychology. Can I apply under SET?

Currently, DRDO is not conducting written test in Life Science/Psychology. The same is covered under Direct Recruitment for Scientist 'B' in other subjects not covered in SET depending on the vacancies which are notified and also advertized. Website may be visited regularly for the latest update. Eligible candidates have to appear before a duly constituted selection committee.

 

31. What is LDCE?

Limited Department Competitive Examination conducted by RAC for qualified Technical Cadre personnels of DRDO to induct them as scientist 'B' in Defence Research and Development Services (DRDS) cadre.

 

32. What is the structure of written test under LDCE scheme?

The written test under LDCE scheme comprises of 75 objective type questions. There are 50 questions on related subjects and 25 questions on scientific aptitude.

 

33. What is the structure of written test under SET scheme?

The written test under SET scheme comprises of 150 objective type questions. There are 100 questions on related subjects and 50 questions on scientific aptitude.

 

34. I am working in DRDO in non DRDS cadre. Will I be able to shift myself to DRDS Cadre?

Personnel under DRTC cadre may shift to DRDS cadre through the following schemes:

• Limited Department Competitive Examination (LDCE).
• Selections through Scientists Entry Test (SET) or specialized subjects (NON-SET).

36. What documents are required at the time of interview?

The candidates are required to bring:

• Proof of having number of years experience in the relevant field as desired for the said post in the advertisement.
• A passport size photo, all ORIGINAL CERTIFICATES, mark sheets and testimonials from 10th standard onward along with a complete set of self attested copies regarding Educational Qualifications and Experience for verification.
• Project Report / Thesis / Publications.
• In case you are employed in a Govt./Semi-Govt./Autonomous Office/Establishment, you must bring your 'No Objection Certificate' from the cadre controlling authority. If your application was forwarded THROUGH PROPER CHANNEL you must bring a copy of note under which your application has been forwarded to this office.
• In case you are a departmental candidate i.e. already employed in DRDO, Min. of Defence on regular basis, you must bring NOC from Directorate of Personnel, DRDO HQs.
• In case you are serving Army / Navy / Air force, you must bring 'NOC' from MS Branch (Army HQ) / Directorate of Personnel (Naval HQ) / DPA (Air HQ) respectively. Retired officer from concerned armed forces must bring the relieving certificate/documentary proof for claiming age relaxation.

 

37. Is PowerPoint presentation permitted at the time of interview for recruitment?

Yes, you are allowed to give presentation.

 

38. What is the procedure for payment of TA?

Indian Railways for the fiscal year 2004-05 onwards, is offering to un-employed youth attending interviews for selection to Central Govt. jobs, full concession in second class on production of call letter and copy of application. This aspect is also being kept in view while paying TA to candidates so as to ensure payment from only one source. Traveling allowance will, however, be paid to the candidates who are called for interview equivalent to single second class (not sleeper class) railway fare by the shortest route to the place of interview from the railway station nearest to the candidate's normal place of residence or from which he actually performs the rail journey, whichever is nearer to the place of interview and back to the same station.

No, you are not eligible.

 

41. I am B.E/B.Tech and have 5 years experience, am I eligible for ROSSA?

No, the essential qualification for ROSSA is fresh PhD.

 

42. As I have done Diploma in Electronics, can I apply for a Scientist post in DRDO?

No, Diploma holders are not eligible for the post of Scientist in DRDS.

 

43. As my Essential Qualification and Higher Qualification (HQ) subjects are different, can I apply according to my HQ subject?

No, you cannot apply according to your HQ subject.

 

44. What is the procedure for doing summer Training in DRDO?

You can apply for summer training to Director of a suitable lab as per your discipline.  You may visit DRDO website http://www.drdo.gov.in for this purpose.

 

45. Is there any age relaxation for a Govt. servant in SET?

No, there is no age relaxation for govt servants in recruitment through all India competitive exams like SET.

 

46. I have just submitted my thesis.  Can I apply in ROSSA?

You must have defended your PhD. before the last date of Registration for ROSSA.
